Woke up this morning to bluebird skies and made my way up to Snowbird for a day of skiing! I was hoping to get the Snowbird/Alta pass but apparently the lift and the area that connects them was closed so I made do with just Snowbird. Took the tram up and started exploring! There was a bit of fresh snow, but it had fallen on top of slush underneath so the snow was ‘interesting’ but it did soften up during the day. Had a great time ripping around and seeing the different areas, looks like it would be a fun mountain with some fresh pow.
Once I was back in Salt Lake City I thought I’d wander around and see what the town was all about. My initial impressions of the town were favorable, reminded me a bit of Vancouver, but without the ocean. Clean downtown, ski resorts and mountain biking close by. After wandering around though, I started seeing things that were a lot different than Vancouver. There are very few apartments downtown from what I can see, sure there are some on the edges of downtown, but I didn’t see that many. The traffic was really good as almost every street is 6 lanes wide! I took the UTA – TRAX for a bit to check it out, like the Skytrain it’s full of annoying people, but it was cool to see it go though the city. Then I found the gigantic Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day saints area, right in downtown. The office tower is the tallest building I saw in downtown (well maybe the Wells Fargo building is taller, I’m not sure), and the whole area is really big, and to be honest, a little creepy. Even though I took lots of pictures today, I didn’t take any around there. After that I wandered up to the State Capitol building and snapped a few shots, apparently tonight is Prom or something as there’s tons of kids in limos and all dressed up.
Tomorrow is still undecided, will probably make my way towards Moab, but I’ll do some research tonight and see where I should go.
