Wow – what a day. Lots of great adventures. Left the campsite this morning – had a quick breakfast at McD’s while we looked at the map. Decided to stay on the coast and visit a bunch of parks. Found some nice small parks with no one on them and no fences/boundaries – made for some “interesting” hikes. Found some land bridges with surging ocean underneath, lighthouses and amazing beaches. All with a blowing wind. It was really windy.
Found a weird little spit with a cat-house village for all the abandoned cats (must be a popular thing to do as it referenced the “thousands” of abandoned cats. Then we drove though a large puddle that turned out to be much deeper than originally thought. I noticed this when I could no longer see as the wave had come up over the hood and was washing on the windshield. Nothing a little gas pedal didn’t solve.
Crossed over into California, decided that the GPS knew best and it pointed us to a road around the northern part of the redwood forest. It was an awesome road, super steep, one lane and gravel. Great views, fun drive and lots of tight corners. After that we did the Redwood forest drive and it was cool, though finding the smaller, lesser travelled roads was definitely the most fun. After driving though Eureka we went out to the spit to watch the sunset. It was soooo windy but amazing to watch. (after we got the truck semi-stuck in front of a very steamy car, haha). We had some difficulties finding a place to stay but ended up at the Scottfield Executive Inn (fancy eh?).
Great day! Likely off to San Francisco tomorrow, talk to you all soon
