Woke up early to get some shots of Bryce Canyon at sunrise, it was quite cold out (around 1 degree Celsius) but quite pretty. There were quite a few people already there when I got there (as the sun was already up) but I managed to get a few good shots, it really is a beautiful area. After that we left Bryce and started driving west. We knew we could take highway 143 though the Cedar Breaks National Monument park, it started climbing (from the 8000ft in Bryce) and for the first time we saw a frozen lake! Still going up we arrived at Brian Head ski resort at just over 10,000ft. The chairlifts were turning and for a minute I thought I was going to be able to go skiing! Then we realized that as it was monday the final day of skiing was yesterday! It was just ski patrol and mountain staff cleaning up the hill for the season. Oh well, the altitude probably would have killed me.
We drove down Interstate 15, stopping quickly on the west side of Zion national park to check out the Kolob canyon drive and then booked it back down to Las Vegas. Garth booked us for 2 nights at Planet Hollywood! It was great, we had a semi-view of the strip (mostly the Paris sign) and we were in the “Waterworld” room. There were props and posters from the movie. Still didn’t make the movie any better though. The next morning we went for breakfast at a place called the “Egg & I” and it was delicious. I had a wonderful skillet filled with potatoes, cheese, ham, bacon, sausages, and of course, eggs. Then I did something both silly and AWESOME! We went to a 4×4 store (4 Wheel Parts) and they were really nice. I was just looking at getting a big jack, and some stuff that could get me un-stuck if I was 4x4ing but ended up buying a levelling kit for the truck (which lifts the front end up a few inches) and some big Pro Comp Xtreme All Terrain tires for the truck. This should really help me when going offroad as i have been scraping the bottom a bit lately. Plus it will look awesome. My appointment is thursday morning to go get it all done!
I just finished dropping Garth off at the airport – he’s been with me the whole way so far so it’s going to be a little weird for the next little bit as I adjust to travelling solo. Garth has been awesome, with lots of good advice and ideas for the trip as well as lending a hand with everything and of course, splitting costs. I’ll miss having someone on the road, but a little alone time to figure out what I want to do in the future should be good for me.
