Left Moab and headed off for Steamboat Springs – the drive went quickly and was relatively uneventful, arrived in Steamboat and met up with my friend Shannon, who I’ve known for years – back from the Snowboard.com days. We went down to “Rex’s” for happy hour and ate some delicious potatochip natchos and had a few delicous “Sunshine” beers from the New England brewing company. Later we went and watched “Kick-ass” and it wasn’t bad! Nothing special, but was something fun to watch.
Headed off the next day on a long drive up to Jackson – this was the reverse of a drive I went on 8 years ago with my friends Nels, Chewy and Carla on a roadtrip we did. It was interesting to try and remember things from then and what had changed. I set the GPS to “shortest route” instead of fastest route added an hour to the estimated time but it was way more fun (and I beat the estimated time by an hour and a half) – ended up taking a 120km road along the Colorado/Wyoming border (Country road 4 for those interested) which eventually turned into a dirt road (but a nice one at that, and they were grading it). Lots of wind and clouds, eventually turned into snow, but it was magic snow that blew around but didn’t stick to anything or melt (everything was dry). Rolled into Jackson around dinnertime and it’s pretty much as I remember – but so dead, it really is shoulder season here. Staying at a cute little Inn that has patchwork quilts and striped wallpaper. Not really my style but the bed looks comfy. Off to Yellowstone tomorrow!
