Days 40 – 43, Whitehorse, YT to Haines, AK

Days 40 – 43, Whitehorse, YT to Haines, AK

Days 40 – 42

Whoohoo! Made it to Whitehorse! It is sunny, warm-ish and I have a place to stay! (Thanks Jocelyn and family!)

Got to go for a ride with a bunch of the peeps from Icycle sports and friends (holy crap I’m out of shape – who knew sitting in a truck for over a month would do that!). I will definitely have to get back out on the bike some more this summer.

Whitehorse turned out to be a pretty cool city, it’s easy to find your way around, it’s got places to re-supply and the surroundings are quite pretty. Plus, I managed to pick up a low-quality three wolf moon shirt! For those of you who don’t know, this shirt has become an internet phenomenon, from being seen on famous people, to getting over 1700 reviews on the amazon page (many of which are hilarious, I recommend you check them out). I believe it has also been one of Amazon’s best sellers. Either way I’m excited to own a piece of the radness.

Again, it’s been nice to have a weekend to relax and not do too much. This week I’ll be headed off towards Anchorage – where on friday I’ll meet up with more friends for another fun weekend (Yay Phoebe!). It’s like my new job is to drive places to meet up with people, if only it actually paid.

Day 42

Crap. I left the bike on the back of the truck last night (locked with a chain and padlock) and woke up to it missing. Should have brought it inside, but my this stage of the trip I’ve gotten complacent. Bye bye Rocky Mountain Flatline! We never had enough adventures together!

Day 43

Drove the Haines highway down and back up today, what an awesome road! It was beautiful, you get right up onto the flats at the base of the mountains and the snow was still around but the road was clear (and empty!).

Great views on the way down, but I drove back as the sun was starting to set and it was even better. Ended up camping on Dezadeash lake, it was a little windy at sunset but very beautiful. Had a lovely dinner of chipotle smokies in flatbread with asperagus, extra old cheddar and cracked pepper
